Fantastic Mr. Fox

The Perfect Thanksgiving Film

Fantastic Mr. Fox

At its core, Thanksgiving is a holiday about family, and in the film Fantastic Mr. Fox directed by Wes Anderson, those themes about family are abundant. In this 2009 film we see Mr. Fox’s development from chicken thief to suburban dad, but at his core Mr. Fox does not feel happy with his life and wants more. Mr. Fox deals with this deep sense of greed all through the film. We see this in the first act of the film when the ambitious character states “I don’t want to live in a hole anymore.” Mr. Fox always wanted more for himself and his family and was never thankful for what he had, and due to this greed, he lost what he valued the most, his new home and his nephew Kristofferson. Mr. Fox had to learn the hard way to be grateful for his family, and he learns this in the final act of the film when he is reunited with his nephew.

From this film we learn the powerful lesson of thankfulness for our families no matter our circumstances, and that is a lesson that is vital during this Thanksgiving season. Furthermore, the aesthetics of the film match the holiday due to the use of warm toned colors such as reds, oranges, browns, and yellows. We see these color patterns all throughout the film, from the characters clothes to even the sky. In addition, this film’s setting is in Autumn during the month of thanksgiving; the film illustrates this by using brown leaves scattered all around the ground throughout the film. It especially shows the theme of Thanksgiving when the characters in the film have a thanksgiving dinner. These are all emblems of the fall season.

To conclude, Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox should be a film we all watch during this Thanksgiving season. This film gives us a great message about family and fits the fall atheistic. We as humans can learn plenty from this beautifully made film.
