Combining an indie style with ever-changing pop influences, Wesley Chapel Highschool student Logan Rowland produces music that is reminiscent of early 2010s pop, while simultaneously maintaining vibes that are like that of disco and synth-pop. Rowland’s music, although still a work in progress, encapsulates his personality and creates its own at the same time.

“I love various aspects of 70s, 80s, and 90s music, and many genres from those decades weave their way into my songs.” Rowland answered when asked about his inspirations for music. “As I grew up in the early 2010’s, my music references that same escapism of euphoric pop songs.” Specifically, artist influences for Rowland include Madonna, Janet Jackson, Troye Sivan, Luna Li and others. Music for Rowland is “a way for me to deal with the things that happen in my life.” Logan says he has always been curious about how music is made, creating the domino effect leading him to the path he’s on now.

Logan says his music also works as a journal for him in a way, using it to express himself, “For me, music is a means of expression. Songwriting provides me with an outlet to write down all the things I can’t communicate in my everyday life.” Rowland says. Music is commonly used as an escape from daily mundane life for many people, Logan alike. “Music doesn’t feel like work to me, and so as long as I continue to get lost in it, I’ll continue to do it.”

Starting with instrumentals that he can build off; Logan creates music starting with things that feel natural to him. He says he heavily relies on random spurts of inspiration. For lyrics, Logan says he prefers to be more upfront and direct with them, “I don’t like to force myself to be overly poetic since it often makes my lyrics feel inauthentic.” Logan says it helps him to imagine the song as clear aesthetic to direct the song in, trying to” think about what that song looks like in my head.” Logan is expecting to have finished his first album by 2023, and it will definitely be worth checking out when it has been released.
