Boys Soccer Kicks Off

The Wesley Chapel Boys Soccer Team is starting the 2022-23 season, and looking to recreate last year’s district title success despite some bumps in the road. Losing 9 core players from last season’s starting lineup and receiving a change in coaching staff during the off season was sure to prove a difficult adjustment for the Wildcats. Despite the plethora of changes, things are looking promising for the group.

New Head Coach Anthony Rivera takes on a new challenge in looking to achieve another season of success for the Boys Soccer program. ” Having won districts last year, our goal is to go beyond that this season.” says Rivera, as he leads an almost entirely new squad on both Varsity and Junior Varsity. The district title win of the 2021-22 season was the first hardware achieved by this program in nearly 15 years, and this year is looking to be an expansion of last season in an effort to make a name for the sport.

Although the Wildcats saw 9 key seniors graduate at the end of last season, both newcomers and returning players alike are more than willing to accept the challenge ahead. “In practice leading up to the season, the boys have been giving everything in training to perform at a high level to give the school and fans electrifying play on the pitch” Rivera said, just after a 1-1 tie against Land O’ Lakes high school on the Wildcats opening night. Seeking to secure a win in the games ahead against rivals Cypress Creek and River Ridge high school, this new lineup is confident they can rise to the challenge.

Returning Seniors found in Joshua Lindo, Lucas Herrera, Reece Jamieson, Cole Lipinski and Yousef Abusharia are bolstered by new and familiar talent from underclassmen Collin Snead, Angel Segura, Vincent Louis and others as they face the season ahead. A new and exciting Junior Varsity Squad shows a promising future for the soccer program with newcomers Malte Koerber, Saif Nasri and fellow teammates proving to be safe hands for an up and coming program.
