Chapel Boys Baseball Team Ready To Swing into Action

The 2022-2023 Wesley Chapel Varsity baseball team had an incredible last year with a record of 12-10, being district champs and making it to the regional semi-finals. They finished 28 out of 89 in Florida 4A. This season is packed with games our baseball team has been preparing for from the start. During these few weeks there has been countless scrimmages where new and familiar faces had the chance to showcase their talents and work together.

Tripp Merrel, first year baseball coach for the wildcats is conditioning these players from the beginning of this year. “Every time these kids go out on the field, they are bonding and having a good time.” The goal for this team is to win 15 games and to make it to the regional finals game. “I am very excited for this season, and we have a really good team so hopefully we can put it together and play.”

Junior Guillermo Rivera had a lot to say about this season. “I feel pretty confident for this season, and I think this team is going to perform very good”, he stated. Rivera believes that they can make it to the regional finals if they all play their part in winning. “Our team has very good chemistry and I think it’s going to be one of the main reasons we will win more this year”, Guillermo says. Guillermo has been playing baseball for 9 years and has been on varsity since freshman year.

Senior Jake Carrillo says, “Our team is great; we just have fun.” “We’re going to take it game by game and worry about one team at a time, we can’t underestimate anyone” says Jake. When asked how he was feeling for this upcoming season, “I feel great about this upcoming season, senior season with my brother and just a great team. I can’t wait to win.” Jake has been playing on varsity for three years.
