The origins of tennis can be traced to a 12th–13th-century French handball game called jeu de paume (“game of the palm”), from which was derived a complex indoor racket-and-ball game: real tennis. This ancient game is still played to a limited degree and is usually called real tennis in Britain, court tennis in the United States, and royal tennis in Australia. It was also played on the tennis originally was known as lawn tennis in Britain.

Tennis can be played two different ways, one way could be two people or four people if you play it with two people it called (playing singles) and if you only play with four people it is called (doubles). Players use a racquet to hit a ball over a net into the other side of the court with this in mind a game of tennis involves a variety of types of play including serving the ball over the net and rallies (when the ball is hit back and forth between the opponents in the game) and it also fast movements and strategic game play. Tennis can be played as a sport or as a recreational activity with friends and family.

Playing tennis is a good sport to maintain your health and fitness, strength and agility. It has been calculated that an hour-long game of singles tennis burns around  600 calories for men and 420 calories for women. With that in mind, when it was played in the form of a handball game called ‘paume’ or palm, the game involved hitting a ball back and forth by hand. In time, a black leather glove was used and then from there a handle was added to the glove, which formed the first racquet.

Wesley Chapel has both boys and girls tennis teams.

The tennis team has been around for now for “24 years since the school has opened” said coach Colding. “Information for tryouts is sent out beginning in November.  School news, connected calls, and remind,” he continued.

“I would tell this person to just enjoy the process. It can be frustrating, tiring, and sometimes even a little painful, but the memories you create when it comes to this sport will last a lifetime” said Camila Perez-Martinez, WCHS tennis player.

Everyone on the team brings their own different and unique style and personality to the courts. We all have fun laughing, making jokes, taking pictures, and so much more. Even if we are just doing a simple rally on the court, we will all have a smile on our faces” said Camila Perez-Martinez.

“Every tennis racket is different, and some people prefer different styles. They come in different weights, materials, sizes, something a professional tennis player needs to take into account when assessing their personal skills, and what racket is best for them. However, if you are just playing tennis as a hobby, a specific tennis racket is not required; just use the one you enjoy and are most comfortable with” said Camila Perez-Martinez .

The girls team has a lot of fun this year. In fact, they won 7 games and lost 6. This year they have placed in district 8th3A District 9. that is overall good placement.
