Shadow and Bone Season 2

Shadow+and+Bone+Season+2

After leaving the show on cliffhanger for a year, Netflix has finally released season 2 of the highly anticipated show, “Shadow Bone”. Based on the popular YA series, the “Grishaverse” has finally come to our screens in stunning quality. Shadow and Bone establishes a world where the “Fold” has split the country of Ravka in half, and the only person who can destroy it is the Sun Summoner, so imagine Alina Starkov’s suprise when she found out that she was the person everyone’s been waiting for.

Season 1 opens on a war-torn Ravka where Alina and her best friend, Mal, are fighting in the first army. Everything was great for the friends until Mal’s name got called to escort Grisha through the “Fold.” Alina, not wanting Mal in danger, decides that she was going to go as well and sneaks on to the Skiff. During this trip, there Skiff was attacked by Volcra, who are man eating creatures that live in the “Fold.” Acting on instinct and fear, Alina lets out a blinding light from her body, killing all nearby Volcra and sending the Skiff back to safety. This suggests that she is the Sun Summoner. This leads to the events of Season 1 (Which I am not going to spoil, go watch it yourself). After leaving fans on a huge cliffhanger, “Shadow and Bone” season 2 picks up right where they left off, with Alina and Mal on the run, General Kirigan alive and making an army, and the Crows on the run from the Stadwatch (Per usual).

The Crows, are characters in a sub-plot of the series including, Kaz Brekker, Jesper Fahey, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar, Inej Gahfa, and newly added Wylan Van-Eck. This group of criminals are fan favorites for both book lovers and show watchers. If this group isn’t pulling off a heist or trying to kidnap a saint, they are killing people in various different ways. Some fan favorite methods are; Using a Cane (Kaz Brekker’s doing), Sharpshooting (Courtesy of Jesper Fahey), and many others.

Even though this is supposed to be an adaptation of the books, the show doesn’t really follow the books as much as you would think it would. This is seen a lot clearer in Season 2 where it cuts out most of the original plot in favor of adding new characters and intertwining plots. But, even though it doesn’t follow the books, most fans still love it. It still brings to life one of the best universes known to man.

Season 2 is a lot more romantic to many fans delight. Characters that fans have shipped for years have become canon this season and we have even gotten to experience already canon couples on screen. Couples of this season include; Kaz x Inej, Nina x Matthias, Jesper x Wylan (My personal favorite), Genya x David, and Mal x Alina. These couples made this season go from great to amazing. The actors did an amazing job bringing the chemistry to life.

Overall, I thought season 2 of “Shadow and Bone” was amazing. It brought my favorite couples and story’s to a wider audience and I am forever grateful for it. I hope Netflix decides to do a Season 3.
