Last Friday, Thomas E. Weightman Middle School held its annual graduation presentation coordinated by their principal Mrs. Fowler, and our own, Mr. McDermott. There, students viewed a presentation on what campus life would be like here at WCHS. Throughout Mr. McDermott’s presentation, students became familiar with our school’s academic expectations, the core courses we offer, electives, and both our AP and Dual Enrollment courses.
Towards the second half of the pep rally, electives were given the chance to show off what made their courses fun through performances. First, our dance program performed one of their numbers from their winter performances. After their performance, the drama club showed one of their best student-made films in 2023.
Finally, McDermott gave a spirited welcome to our school’s band director, Jonathan C. Sims. WCHS’s music programs offer a number of different opportunities for students who are interested in pursuing musical performance. We offer a concert program in which students perform throughout the school year in a concert setting, a jazz program in which improvisation and creativity are encouraged, and a wind ensemble program for students who perform music at an elevated level.
The pep rally ended with band preforming three of their game day songs. After school, there was an extended orientation where parents and teachers discussed more on what their children would be involved in through their enrollment.
Overall, students of TEWMS were excited to begin their high school careers at WCHS.
