“Black Panther” – Movie Review

Black+Panther+-+Movie+Review

Black Panther is a flawless example of cultural representation in modern day filmmaking. Directed by Ryan Coogler, this action and adventure movie has everything you could have hoped for in a movie. Black Panther features actors like Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, and Winston Duke. It takes place in Wakanda, a captivating hidden nation in Africa, around the year 2017. After the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, the actor of the Black Panther, T’Challa, it keeps us grateful for this enthralling performance. Knowing that we will not be able to have the exposure to the same acting that he brought to life in this film makes the experience meaningful.

In the Marvel Universe, Wakanda is in Africa, hidden from the outside world, to shield their advantages. Wakanda was hit with a meteorite of Vibranium, the strongest metal on Earth. They used this distinctive material to improve their technical advancement, like weapons, armor, and even Black Panthers suits. In the wrong hands, Vibranium could have been used in the wrong ways, so Wakanda was hidden with an advanced holographic shield around the civilization. After the death of his father, T’challa is compelled to return to Wakanda to fight for the title of Black Panther and take place as king. Competition strikes and the fate of Wakanda is at risk. T’challa must fight this conflict to protect his family, and nation.

The acting of this movie soars like no other. Chadwick performed the role of the Black Panther better than anyone else could have. The representation of the roles in this movie is what truly differed it from other movies. Chadwick was a real-life hero and affected society with his role as the Black Panther. This role showed society that even heroes can face conflicts that occur in the world today. Racism and Prejudice both occur in this film, it is important to acknowledge to prove that T’challa would not have been a hero without it and overcoming it. Chadwick played his role, but also was the Black Panther, he was meant for the role. He portrayed the grief and feelings of T’challa, after only recently losing his father, in Avengers: Civil War. Overcoming that grief was his important step to become the leader that Wakanda needed.

The cinematography of Black Panther is another element of the extraordinary making of this movie. We start the movie by seeing the city of Wakanda, and the world outside of it. The beauty of the nation and the cultures portrayed throughout all represent the message of the movie, that representation is the most key ingredient of the world, being equal. Scenes throughout the whole movie show us not only the beauty of Wakanda, but the world around. In the Ancestral Plane, the afterlife in which Wakandans believe their souls go to after death, we see some of the best cinematography in the movie. The sky filled with bright colors, and trees everywhere, we see the meaningful scene between T’challa and his father, where he gives advice to make him the best leader and Black Panther, for his nation.

Every single time I watch this movie, it feels like the first time. Feeling these emotions with the perfect balance of comedy and meaningfulness, Black Panther is a movie that should be further treasured as time goes on. The quality of the performance of each actor was phenomenal and worth watching.

I truly believe that this film is a piece of art, literally and figuratively.

Although we cannot see this performance of Chadwick again, his work will go down in history, along with every other actor featured in this masterpiece.

I will continue to recommend this movie, as it will always be my favorite, and was the perfect addition to the Marvel Universe.
