The Movie The Woman King starring Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, John Boyega

The Woman King is an action, drama movie directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, produced by Cathy Schulman, Viola Davia, Julius Tennon, Maria Bello, etc., also cinematographer Polly Morgan. Thus with a cast full of well-known actors including Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, John Boyega, Jordan Bolger, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin. Based on a true story showcasing a major era in African history.

During the time in 1823 in the West African kingdom of Dahomey talks of war started brewing. The leader of the Agojie, General Nanisca, freed the Dahomean women that were abducted by slavers from the Oyo Empire, another African kingdom. King Ghenzo of Dahomey gets provoked and prepares to go to war with the Oyo. Simultaneously, Nanisca begins to train a new generation of warriors to join the Agojie to protect the kingdom. There are several twists and turns the movie provides that are unexpected. Therefore, with an action pack story of the Kingdom of Dahomey told by Maria Bello and Dana Stevens.

This movie is based on a true story in 1823 of the all-women army, the Agojie. Although the movie will never be the exact same as the history, it does have it similarities. For example, some scenes are taken

The real-life Agojie woman that movie is based on

from history with the African kingdoms, wars, and the knowledge of slavery. Without a doubt, it demonstrates accurate information in the movie with powerful parts in history. Although the similarities are sharp, the majority of the characters are fictional including the main cast. This shows that the main plot is not true history, though some of the action and scenes in the movie are.

On the other hand the action-packed into the movie creates the whole story. Though some scenes may not seem like it, they are full of action. It is related to the dramatic story of the fierce Agojie women, who are known as “Amazons.” With the rise of warfare, there are a lot of fighting scenes dedicated to the Dahomey Empire, Oyo Empire, and the Europeans that are being played throughout the movie. In addition the training of the Agojie women shows a ferocious battle force protecting the king and the kingdom. Without a doubt, the entire movie is full of wild action scenes throughout it.

The whole movie is one giant dramatic retelling several would want to know. The director and cast did a spectacular job to make the whole story come alive. It will always be a challenge to do a great movie when there is a true history behind it. Without a doubt, there will be scenes that correctly accentuate and go into depth with the detail of the movie. Nevertheless, there is also action throughout the entire film. The Woman King has an amazing plot, exceptional character, and remarkable storyline that went into creating this. Although, I feel as though there may be something missing, like if there could be more factual things included in it. Even then, The Woman King would be an enormous choice with a star rating of 4.
