FAMU

Applications, deadlines, and transcripts! These are many of the words you will hear when it comes to college, especially if you are a junior and or senior. Out of all the many colleges, universities, and trade schools available one stands out and deserves a special spotlight.

FAMU is a historically black university located in the capital of our state Tallahassee. It was founded on October 3rd of 1887, and FAMU stands for Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. FAMU stands out because of its high quality and affordable education and a myriad of excellent programs for students to choose from. FAMU also has many satellite campuses across Florida.
FAMU has a vision, as they state on their website themselves: “FAMU will be recognized as a leading national public university that is internationally renowned for its competitive graduates, transformative research, and innovation.”
FAMU also has a set of values it stands by: accountability, inclusion, innovation, and integrity. This school prides itself on sincerity and hard work, and helping students build a strong future for themselves.

So how did this great place come to be? Well 130+ years ago this college was founded by Thomas DeSaille Tucker, a magnificent attorney from Pensacola. Classes began with 15 students and 2 teachers. Over the next 130+ years the college would develop itself in many excellent ways. Over the years more buildings would be constructed, more subjects added, and it would enroll many more students. FAMU even enrolled more national achievement finalists than Harvard, Yale, and Stanford at one point.
FAMU is today now the number 1 HBCU for research and development and has been the highest ranked HBCU for five years.

Each year over 10,000 students from across our country and over 70 countries globally are accepted into this college, and financial aid and many scholarships are offered. If you want to go to a school that’s historically black and the majority look similar to you, then perhaps you should consider this place for your admissions. FAMU has climbed itself up the ladder and has become one of the best places to study at. If you are interested their information will be at the end of the article.
