Interview with Wesley Chapel High School’s new head football coach! By Khizar Saiyed
Coach+Patterson+Interview

This week we interviewed the new head football coach, Coach Patterson. He came over from Cypress Creek High School as an assistant coach, now he’s at chapel as the head coach for the 2024 season and it seems everyone is really excited about it. We asked him some questions to get to know and see his background in football or sports in general.

We asked him why he wanted to become a football coach and he responded with, “The answer of the top of my head is I just simply love this game! I was fortunate enough to find my passion early in life and that is mentoring kids through sports to help them become the best versions of themselves on their journey to adulthood.” He seems to be a very passionate person about the game and watching his young athletes grow up to be successful men and athletes.

We wondered about his aspects and why he loves the game, so we asked, what aspects of being a football coach do you enjoy the most, and why is that? He went on to respond with, “I love the connection I make with the athletes and the relationships formed that last longer than just high school.” With the answer of Coach Patterson, you can see he is the type of coach to create lifetime bonds with his players to see them grow and support them along the way.

In our wonders of his IQ and strength we asked him about his thoughts of the strengths and weaknesses of a football coach, we asked him in your opinion, what are the greatest strengths and weaknesses of being a football coach? He proceeded to respond with, “I think the greatest strength of a football coach is leadership and demanding excellence day in and day out. A weakness of being a football coach is the amount of time that goes into running a successful team.” In his response he sees there has to be time put in to be a good team and it’s true, so he has a very good IQ upon the idea of knowing you have to do some things to get better. He also talks about leadership and its important and having a team that respects you by your leadership.

To see how he communicates and what kind of coach he is in that aspect of it we asked him. What is your preferred communication style when interacting with the players? He responded with, “I like to consider myself as a player’s Coach and prefer Assertive communication style when interacting with my players. I love to joke around and have fun with my players while also setting them up for success and being serious when it is needed.” He is a mixture of being funny when you can but being serious when you must and that’s good cause you have emotions at times and other times you can show them by laughing and making connections with your players.

That’s it for the interview thanks you for reading and Good Luck This Season! Go Wildcats.
